Gath of Baal
National Combat Jousting Tournament
|
Since 1993 Free Lancers have been allowed to hold the
National Combat Jousting Tournament during Memorial Day Weekend in Waxahachie, Texas.
The owners and staff of Scarborough Faire have graciously allowed us to use
their arena to recreate a jousting tournament of the 16th century.
The tournament lasts three days with full-contact jousting in three divisions,
French style on Saturday, Northern Italian style on Sunday and Freestyle on Monday
(freestyle jousts to be selected, by each pair of jousters, from the remaining
five of seven different styles).
This gives everyone the same advantages and disadvantages.
Lots are drawn to see in which order each knight will joust.
There are cash awards for the highest scores
(last years prize moneys totaled over $3,000).
Championships are awarded in all three divisions as well as a
Grand Championship to the jouster with the highest
cumulative score after the three days of competition.
Competitors are required to follow these guidelines:
- Provide their own armour, reinforcing pieces and
shield for full contact jousting in the French, Northern Italian and
Freestyle according to the enclosed armour specifications.
- Provide their own trained jousting horse and have all health
documents available for veterinarian inspection.
- Adhere to the rules and regulations of Scarborough Faire
and the National Combat Jousting Tournament.
- Pay an entry fee of $100 per person sent to represent their troupe.
(Payable to Scarborough Faire)
- Sign a liability agreement. (One per entrant)
- Provide proof of insurance.
We supply the following:
- Hay and water for your horses.
- Identification passes to Scarborough Faire for your knights and squires.
- Cash purses to be awarded for highest scores in all divisions.
- Electricity for armour repairs.
- All Lances with vamplates, pennants, tips and caps.
- Camping spaces.
